It's that time of the season again! (Sept-Oct range) Yummy Mooncakes are showing up in all the Asian bakeries and grocery markets here in the U.S. I love them, especially the jujube paste with walnuts! While the Mooncakes festival has a version of itself across many countries I wanted to focus this one on the Cantonese style Mooncake of China, Specifically the story of Chang E and the Jade rabbit. There are many versions of the story, but they all end with Chang E living on the moon as an immortal with her companion the Jade Rabbit, feel free to check the story out yourself in detail! :)

Artist Note:

I had so much fun figuring out how to get the small details of each cake right, and adding the toasted coloring of the pastry, very time-consuming but well worth it! These were painted in Photoshop from scratch no AI was used to create these pieces, just Photoshop brushes and a Wacom tablet. If interested there will be some speed paint demos on my Instagram!
